Reinvigorate Robbinsville’s School Community Through Reliability

By Fizza Seehra

As a Board of Education slate, one of our key goals is to reinvigorate the school community through RELIABILITY. Parents and taxpayers must be confident that prudent decisions are being made with the school budget that will prioritize students, classroom programs, and services. Teachers must be able to have confidence in the school board and its administration to recognize and respect staff input, and to provide the necessary tools and resources for establishing an adaptable learning environment conducive to student success. My name is Fizza Seehra, and along with Barbara Gould and Christopher Emigholz, we would like to outline our strategy for reinvigorating Robbinsville’s school community. Our plan involves improving reliability with more varied and frequent communications, establishing a partnership of trust, and implementing a transparent decision-making process.

Reliability through communication: We will advocate for opportunities for community members and students  to share their suggestions and provide feedback on what is occurring within the school learning environment. It is critical to our collective to get  a  “pulse” from  the student body, their families and teachers to ensure there is a holistic approach to decision making. Each board meeting should focus on delivering a presentation on an item focused on education - curriculum, testing, mental health support - which will increase transparency into decision making pathways and create more forums for discussions.

Reliability by building trust: As young kids, we are taught that one way trust is earned is through consistently showing up for someone, listening, and investing in the relationship. Trust goes alongside communication when building a reliable Board of Education. The diversity of our student population is an asset to our district, and we must ensure they can trust us by making certain they feel safe in their environment.  This cannot be achieved unless we demonstrate we are listening to their needs by offering reliable student programming, mental health services, and open lines of communication with staff and administration. As significant decisions are made, such as schedule changes, we must advocate for proactive outreach to families & teachers to ensure decisions that were made are having the intended impact.

Reliability through transparent decision-making: Our community relies on the board to make decisions to support student growth. These decisions must be made transparently. As a BOE slate, we know making tough decisions with taxpayers' dollars is challenging in this economy. Our slate supports deeper and frequent discussions between board members that informs the public of the decision-making process and the outcomes.

As a BOE slate, Barbara Gould, Christopher Emigholz, and I are committed to reinvigorating the Robbinsville school community through reliability. We firmly believe that fostering reliability hinges upon establishing trust through adept communication, transparent decision-making, and actions that consistently place students at the core of our decision-making process.
